Hawaii to Nevada freight has to cross an ocean and then a desert. Your container sails to a California port and finishes the trip on a truck bound for Las Vegas, Reno or wherever you are headed. A freight forwarder books each of those legs and keeps them in line.

How Does Freight Forwarding from Hawaii to Nevada Work?

A freight forwarder books your Hawaii to Nevada freight on a Matson sailing to California, then arranges the truck that carries it inland to your address. A full container you load and unload yourself costs about $10,000 to $16,000. Plan on about 7 to 10 days port to port and 12 to 20 days door to door.

Why Nevada Freight Lands in California First

Nevada has no seaport. Every container bound for the state comes ashore on the West Coast and rolls the rest of the way by road.

Which port fits depends on where in Nevada you live. The state has two very different delivery corridors.

Southern Nevada: Long Beach and I-15

Containers for Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas usually come in at Long Beach. From the terminal, a truck takes the Long Beach Freeway (I-710), one of the busiest container corridors in the country.

The driver then heads northeast on I-15. That road climbs Cajon Summit at about 4,260 feet, crosses the Mojave Desert and reaches Las Vegas after roughly 280 miles.

Cargo heading the other way uses the same terminal, and our page on Long Beach freight forwarding explains how it runs.

Northern Nevada: Oakland and I-80

Reno, Sparks and Carson City sit much closer to the Bay Area. A container for northern Nevada can arrive at Oakland and travel about 210 miles east on I-80.

That drive crosses the Sierra Nevada at Donner Summit, more than 7,000 feet up. Caltrans posts chain controls for heavy trucks there during winter storms, and the road can close in bad weather.

What We Coordinate on This Route

The forwarder does not run the ship or every truck itself. The job is to book each piece and make sure the handoffs connect.

Karen Danino, who owns Hawaiian Movers, coordinates each shipment. Our public registrations are USDOT 4024631, MC 1518931 and SCAC HWMI.

Leaving the Islands

On Oahu, your loaded container goes straight to Honolulu Harbor. A container from Kauai, Maui or Molokai first rides an inter-island vessel to Honolulu, which can add time.

The Big Island has its own routing. A state environmental assessment reports that since 2021, Matson has handled all Big Island cargo at Kawaihae on the west coast. If you are shipping from the Big Island, send us your full address and we will check the route before you book.

Agricultural Rules for Cargo Bound for Nevada

The USDA, through its APHIS plant health service, restricts farm and garden items that leave Hawaii for the mainland. Soil, plants growing in soil and most fresh fruits and vegetables are not allowed.

Treat that as general guidance and check APHIS for any item you are unsure about. Before you load, rinse the dirt off yard tools, bikes and patio furniture.

Getting Ready for a Nevada Delivery

The desert and the mountains each bring their own planning points. None of these is a rule, but each one helps the delivery day go smoothly.

Tell us your full Nevada address and we will check the route and the container size before you book.

Full Containers Only

Containers come in 20ft, 40ft, 40ft high cube and 45ft sizes, always for your use alone. Your cargo never shares a box, and shipper-owned containers are welcome. Personal belongings are common, and so is commercial cargo: inventory leaving an island shop, business equipment, or surplus building materials headed to Nevada.

Shared loads, pallets, small parcels and air freight are outside what we do. Cars also travel on their own booking through car shipping from Hawaii and never ride inside the container.

The ocean leg, port to port with terminal time, runs about 7 to 10 days. The rest is island trucking before the sailing and the drive from California into Nevada. Las Vegas sits roughly 280 miles from Long Beach, and Reno about 210 miles from Oakland.

Shipping household goods from Hawaii to Las Vegas in a full container costs about $10,000 to $16,000. That range is for a full container you load and unload yourself. The container size you choose and your exact Las Vegas valley address are the two things that move the number most.

The cheapest way to ship a few boxes from Hawaii to Las Vegas is usually the mail or a parcel service. A shared-load provider can make sense for a load that will not fill a container. A full container is built for a whole household or a large load, because one price covers the entire box. We ship exclusive-use full containers only, so we fit the larger end of that scale.

No, you cannot ship a car from Hawaii to Las Vegas inside a household container with us. Vehicles travel on their own booking, separate from your container, so plan the car as a second shipment. Ask for its price and timing in writing, just as you would for the container. Keeping the two bookings apart also leaves the full container free for furniture, boxes and the rest of your household goods.
